Julian Nagelsmann: Timo Werner has said he was right to stay at RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann says Timo Werner is happy about his decision to stay at Red Bull Arena.
Timo Werner was linked with a move away from RB Leipzig in the summer, but ultimately decided to stay and sign a new deal with 'Die Roten Bullen' until 2023.

According to RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann, the striker has since expressed his delight with his decision to stay put.

"Timo has told me several times that it was the right decision to stay in Leipzig, and I show him how happy I am that he made that decision by letting him play every week," Nagelsmann told Sport Bild and continued:

"When you fight for a player like that, you have to prove to him that you can make him better. Timo has improved his combination play. He often used to stay on the left wing in order to create counter-attacks. He's now finding space in between lines and is harder to predict."

Nagelsmann claims he would advise Timo Werner to leave the club if he felt that the 23-year-old needed to take the next step in order to continue his development.

"I recommended Niklas Süle to take the next step and join Bayern when I was at Hoffenheim. I see my job as being a friend to the players and a trusted person for them. That means that when I'm asked, I do all I can to give them a realistic view of things as well as advice on planning their lives. I have advised many players to leave their current club and join a new one. I would do the same with Timo Werner if he were to develop much faster than RB Leipzig," Nagelsmann said.

Werner has scored 15 goals in 17 appearances for RB Leipzig this season.
