Schalke 04 coach David Wagner plans to let Markus Schubert stay in goal ahead of Alexander Nübel for the rest of the season.

Speaking after Schalke's 0-1 loss to Bayern München in the DFB-Pokal on Tuesday, which saw Schubert replace Nübel in the line-up, Wagner said he wants to keep faith in the 21-year-old.

"Schubert will play the next games. The goal is that he will stay in goal for the rest of the season. But the most important thing now is that he stays fit," Wagner told Sky and added:

"Alexander [Nübel] was composed when I informed him of the decision. He sensed it himself to a certain extent. It was a simply and short conversation."

Alexander Nübel will be joining Bayern München on a free transfer at the end of the season.
