Kicker Report: Glasner's rift with management irreconcilable

VfL Wolfsburg managing director Jorg Schmädtke kept mostly quiet on Monday, only tersely telling the Wolfsburger Nachrichten website "He [Oliver Glasner] is the coach of Wolfsburg at the moment and there is nothing contradicting that."

An article in German footballing magazine Kicker wrote that Glasner "had crossed a line" which would cost him his job sooner or later."

German footballing magazine Kicker reports that the relationship between Jörg Schmadtke and Oliver Glasner had been frayed for some time. Glasner's declaration late last week that he was disappointed with his front office for not delivering in the Summer transfer window may have done irreparable damage to this relationship.

According to Kicker, VfL manager Marcel Schäfer had long served as the mediator between the two. While Glasner expressed surprise that his words had caused such a stir in a pre-match interview on Sunday, Schäfer seemed to censure the trainer for airing his grievances publicly.

"It's absolutely no problem that you have different opinions and rub each other the wrong way," Schäfer told SkyGermany over the weekend, "but we should discuss the topic of managerial planning internally and will do so in the future."

The manner in which Glasner remained vocal about the squad's needs over the summer evidently aggravated the club's management. Kicker reports that Glasner has had difficulty adjusting to his lack of say in personnel moves since moving to Germany from Austrian club LASK Linz, where he was both coach and manager.

The Kicker article concludes by affirming that a Glasner departure has, at best, only been postponed.
