Salihamidzic confirms Dayot Upamecano will join Bayern from RB Leipzig

Bayern München sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has confirmed the signing of Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig.
Dayot Upamecano will be joining Bayern München from RB Leipzig this summer. Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has confirmed reports that a deal has been reached.

The Bavarians will activate Upamecano's €42.5 million clause to sign the highly-rated centre-back on a contract until 2026.

"I can confirm that, and we are very happy about that at FC Bayern. We had very good, intensive and professional discussions with Dayot and his agent Volker Struth for several months," Salihamidzic told Bild.

"We knew we had very tough competition. Upamecano is a young player at the age of 22, whose qualities are already exceptionally developed.

"At the end of a long process, the player, his family and his management were convinced that FC Bayern is the right partner for them."

Upamecano was linked with a host of European top clubs, including Manchester United, Liverpool and FC Barcelona.

The 22-year-old French centre-back made the switch to Leipzig from RB Salzburg in January 2017.
