Nagelsmann opens up on Süle's uncertain future at Bayern

Julian Nagelsmann praises Niklas Süle, but admits the 25-year-old's Bayern future is up in the air.
New Bayern München coach Julian Nagelsmann has offered his opinion on Niklas Süle's contract situation.

Asked about the future of Süle, whose Bayern deal expires in 2022, Nagelsmann told Sport Bild:

"I think it's important to be totally transparent with the players. The players also need to understand the club's view of the contractual situation.

"Niki's contract expires next year, and he didn't have a particularly successful last season. But he has everything that a world-class centre-back must have. This must not be forgotten," added Nagelsmann, who used to work with Süle at Hoffenheim in the past.

"If he has the insight to work on his areas of improvement, I'm sure he can get back to his best, especially since he will now play under a coach, who has known him since the U16's.

"I've already talked to him about that. He has to do something, he knows that, but I think very, very highly of him. At the same time, you have to understand the club's position. It's clear that we're always looking at what's happening on the market. However, everyone at Bayern would be very happy if Niki Süle played every game and got top grades in Bild."

Bayern paid €20 million to sign the 25-year-old centre-back from Hoffenheim in 2017.

He has played a total of 133 games for the Bavarian club, chipping in with six goals and three assists.
