Magdeburg and Darmstadt lose ground in their respective aims at either end of the standings after a 1-1 draw. The result is more beneficial for other teams in the promotion race and those fighting relegation.
Fabian Nürnberger scored twice in the space of four minutes, but the first happened to be in the wrong net. Marcel Schuhen has been in fine form in Darmstadt’s goal, and he made a superb save to deny Dariusz Stalmach in the first-half.
Despite the absence of 5,600 fans due to suspension for the disturbance against Dynamo Dresden, the atmosphere in Magdeburg was electric as usual. And they did celebrate going in front when a mix-up involving Schuhen and Nürnberger led to the opening goal of the night.
Four minutes later, Nürnberger’s deflected effort leveled the score for the promotion hopefuls. Magdeburg ended their four-game losing streak, but the point wasn’t enough to get them out of the bottom of the league. Elversberg’s defeat in Fürth sees Darmstadt remain second despite their winless run away from home extended to seven games.
