Borussia Dortmund and head coach Niko Kovač alongside assistants, Robert Kovač and Filip Tapalovic, are continuing their partnership.

The 54-year-old signed a new contract with the eight-time German champions on Tuesday, extending it until June 30, 2029.

Kovač and his coaching staff took over Borussia Dortmund in the spring of 2025 when they were in eleventh place in the Bundesliga.

The Croatian secured qualification for the UEFA Champions League on the final matchday of the 2024/25 season with a win over Holstein Kiel.

Last season, Kovač led the club to a second-place finish. The 73 points achieved represent the fifth-best points haul in the club's history.

“With Niko Kovac, we have been on a very good path since he took office just over a year and a half ago," said Lars Ricken, Managing Director of Sport.

"He has consistently developed the team and enjoys a high level of acceptance within our club. Extending Niko's contract is also a clear sign of consistency and stability at Borussia Dortmund.

“And Niko knows what he has at Borussia Dortmund. Therefore, we quickly agreed to continue on this path together,” he added.
