Back in March, Bild reported that Bayern Munich were considering a move for Oliver Baumann to replace Manuel Neuer, who was considering retiring at the time.

Neuer ultimately chose to extend his contract by a further year, and Bayern's interest never intensified – but that doesn't mean the German champions have dropped their interest in the 36-year-old Hoffenheim goalkeeper.

With Neuer, 40, now considered very likely to hang up his gloves in the summer of 2027, Jonas Urbig has been lined up as his successor as Bayern's new No. 1. However, the club would still like to sign a goalkeeper to serve as a reliable back-up for the 23-year-old.

According to Kicker, Baumann is “certainly” being “discussed” at Säbener Strasse for this role.

However, the 36-year-old is reportedly eyeing Karl-Heinz Körbel's Bundesliga record of 602 appearances. Baumann currently has 75 fewer appearances, meaning he could take over the record in just over two seasons, but only if he plays regularly – which wouldn't be the case at Bayern.

Augsburg's Finn Dahmen, 1. FC Köln's Marvin Schwäbe, Fulham's Bernd Leno and Hamburger SV's Daniel Heuer Fernandes have also been mentioned as options for Bayern.

Before stepping up their interest in any of them, however, Bayern need to get a clear signal from Neuer as to how he sees his future beyond next summer.
