Nico Schlotterbeck’s contract extension with Borussia Dortmund until 2031 in the spring included a €50-60 million release clause, which reportedly applies to Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Liverpool.

According to Bild, one of these clubs – Real Madrid – are now preparing an offer for the 26-year-old centre-back, who is expected to be a starter for Germany at the World Cup.

The German tabloid also claims that Schlotterbeck himself has repeatedly told his inner circle how much he is attracted to a move to the Spanish capital club.

Schlotterbeck’s release clause is understood to be active until the end of the World Cup, with the final set to be played on July 19.

The 26-year-old joined Dortmund from Freiburg in 2022.
