FC Schalke 04 (1-3-3, 16th) host RB Leipzig (4-0-3, 6th) in the eighth matchweek of the 2026/27 Bundesliga season on Saturday afternoon at Veltins-Arena.
Schalke have the Bundesliga as their primary focus after an early exit from the DFB-Pokal to SG Dynamo Dresden (0-2) earlier this week. Die Königsblauen are desperate for a win to avoid the relegation zone, having picked up just two points from their last four matches (0-2-2).
Leipzig, on the other hand, are still in the DFB-Pokal and UEFA Champions League, having picked up a close victory against third-tier Rot-Weiss Essen in the middle of the week (2-1). Their Bundesliga results have been relatively shaky over the last three weeks, with a 6-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, a 1-6 defeat to FC Bayern München, and a 4-0 victory over SV Elversberg 07.
The two sides have met only twelve times since Sachsen club Leipzig, founded in 2009, participated in the Bundesliga for the first time in the 2016/17 season. In that span, Leipzig are 8-2-2 against their opposition from Nordrhein-Westfalen - and have won all of their last five meetings, outscoring Schalke 22-3.
In the 2023/24 season, which was the most recent for Schalke in the Bundesliga, Leipzig won the away match 6-1 and followed with a 4-2 home victory on the last day. The last time that Schalke won was 3-1 in Leipzig on 28. September 2019, and Schalke’s only home victory against Leipzig came by a 2-0 score on 19. August 2017.
Here are the confirmed lineups for Miron Muslić’s FC Schalke 04 and Martín Demichelis’ RB Leipzig. Kickoff is set for 15.30 (CET).
