Nico Schlotterbeck is facing a lengthy recovery period after suffering a medial ligament injury in his ankle while on international duty with Germany at the World Cup.
As reported by Bild, Borussia Dortmund hope to have the centre-back fit by mid-September at the latest.
The report claims Schlotterbeck will need to wear a special protective boot for the next four to six weeks, restricting him to strength training during that period.
As a result, he will miss Dortmund’s pre-season trip to Japan from July 26 to August 2, instead remaining at the club’s training ground to continue his individual rehabilitation.
Schlotterbeck’s reported €50 million release clause – valid for a select group of clubs until one week after the World Cup final – is expected to expire unused, with the defender fully focused on his recovery and returning to action as soon as possible.
