Schlotterbeck left out of Germany squad against Greece – here's why

Nico Schlotterbeck will not be available to Jürgen Klopp for Germany's Nations League match against Greece, despite the Borussia Dortmund defender being present at the stadium.

Schlotterbeck is not included in Germany's official UEFA squad list for the game. The list had to be submitted by 23:59 on the day before the match, meaning Klopp's decision had to be made in advance.

The reason for Schlotterbeck's omission is understood to be workload management. The centre-back has only recently returned from injury and is one of the players who has been with the Germany squad throughout the entire international break.

Rather than risk putting too much physical strain on the 26-year-old, the Germany coaching staff have decided to leave him out of the matchday squad against Greece.

Interestingly, Schlotterbeck is still at the stadium with the team. His absence from the UEFA squad list therefore does not mean that he has left the Germany camp.

His omission will most likely open the door for Yann Aurel Bisseck. The Inter Milan defender is now in line for a possible appearance alongside Jonathan Tah in central defence.

Meanwhile, Bambasé Conté has taken over Schlotterbeck's number 15 for the match against Greece.
