“Sometimes we fight …”: Guirassy on his professional relationship with Niko Kovac

Serhou Guirassy provided an honest reflection of his relationship with Niko Kovac. In his interview with Bundesliga (DFL), the 30-year-old striker was asked whether it helps him develop to work alongside the Croat coach.
"It depends, but my relationship with Niko Kovač is very good,” the Guinean responded before going into further details. “Sometimes we fight, but in the end I respect him, and he respects me. When there are things that need to be said, we say them to each other like professionals.
“Of course, he can shout at me, and we can have arguments with each other, but in the end it’s for the good of everyone."
Guirassy responded that he didn’t even know he was playing his 100th Dortmund game against Villarreal when DFL asked him about Kovac’s record in his first 50 games. "I don’t really follow things like that. I don’t really follow statistics, but I saw that he’s the coach with the most points
per game over his first 50 matches. That shows his quality, of course."
The striker has an even better relationship with Dortmund’s current captain Waldemar Anton, who he knows from their time together at VfB Stuttgart. “I’ve known Waldi (Anton) for a long time, and he’s also someone who doesn’t hesitate to tell me what he has to say. That’s how we can move forward." Guirassy said about Emre Can’s deputy.
As for the new signings, the French-born striker believes the new players suit his style more by comparing the outgoing Karim Adeyemi with Konstantinos Karetsas as an example. "It changes things a little. If you compare it with Karim, for example, he is more of a player who makes runs in behind. Then when you switch to Costa (Karetsas), Costa is more of a player who wants to combine.
“I like combining, so that suits me more. But they’re both very good players with different styles, and sometimes certain styles work better with certain players. Karetsas is a very good player and a very good signing."
