VfB Stuttgart returned to winning ways after back-to-back defeats with a 2-0 victory away to SC Paderborn at the Home Deluxe Arena in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
After Jamie Leweling saw a big chance saved by Paderborn goalkeeper Nahuel Noll in the 22nd minute, Stuttgart took the lead a few minutes later. Angelo Stiller delivered a superb ball over the defence for Jeff Chabot, who headed home to put the visitors ahead.
Leweling squandered another huge opportunity just before the half-hour mark, hitting the post from a promising position.
At the other end, Raphael Obermair had Paderborn’s best chance of the first half, as his effort was saved by Dennis Seimen, who was making his Bundesliga debut for Stuttgart.
Stuttgart had further chances to extend their lead after the break, with Ermedin Demirovic coming particularly close in the 62nd minute after breaking through on goal following a mistake in the Paderborn defence. However, he was unable to beat Noll, who produced an impressive performance in goal for the hosts.
Paderborn came agonisingly close to equalising late on, but Rayan Philippe’s effort was cleared off the line. Stuttgart then struck at the other end, with Chris Führich smashing the ball in off the crossbar in the 83rd minute to seal a 2-0 win.
The win lifts Sebastian Hoeness’ side to 10th in the table ahead of the remaining matches of the weekend, while Paderborn sit 15th.
