VfB Stuttgart goalkeeper Dennis Seimen returned from injury on Saturday, marking his Bundesliga debut with a clean sheet as his side secured a 2-0 away win against SC Paderborn.
What made the occasion even more special was that the 20-year-old made his first appearance in Germany's top flight against Paderborn, where he spent last season on loan.
“To make my Bundesliga debut for the club where I worked my way through the youth ranks for years – and then to do it against the club I was loaned to last season... These are the kinds of stories that only football can write,” Seimen told Sky after the game.
“I have to say, a few tears were shed after the final whistle,” Seimen revealed, later telling DAZN that it was “the most emotional experience I have had in my career.”
The 20-year-old received a warm reception from the home fans at the Home Deluxe Arena, which meant a lot to him.
“The stadium isn't particularly big, but the fans are still loud. Of course, I noticed it, and it made me incredibly happy,” said Seimen, who helped Paderborn secure promotion to the Bundesliga last season.
