After Jürgen Klopp stepped back from his role as Red Bull's Head of Global Soccer to become Germany coach following the World Cup, Roger Schmidt was announced as his successor.

The former RB Salzburg, Bayer Leverkusen and Benfica coach officially began work in his new role on Thursday and will oversee football development across the multi-club structure, including RB Leipzig, Red Bull New York, Red Bull Bragantino in Brazil and RB Omiya Ardija in Japan.

“It feels great to be back with the Red Bull family,” said Schmidt on his first day in the job.

“This environment is unique in world football, and it is the ambition behind it that makes it so exciting. I’m now looking forward to getting to know the people behind our clubs, understanding how they work, and building the future on foundations that are already strong," he added.

Schmidt, 59, will spend his first few weeks visiting the clubs, meeting coaching staffs, sporting directors and academy leaders, as well as attending matches.

He will then visit Red Bull's international clubs through the end of the year, looking to gain a first-hand understanding of each club's current situation and help shape the way forward.
