After an eventful week, Jonas Urbig delivered on the pitch - and afterward shared insights into his recovery, Bayern’s tactics, and a potential national team call-up.

Jonas Urbig described the lead-up to Bayern’s latest match in the Champions League against Atalanta Bergamo as “unusual” after working his way back to full fitness in time to start.

“It was an unusual week at first - I had to slowly get back into training to be fit again,” the goalkeeper explained. “Yesterday in training I had a good feeling again, and I was available for the game today.”

Urbig played an important role in Bayern’s game, fitting seamlessly into the team’s aggressive tactical approach. He highlighted the importance of keeping opponents pinned deep in their own half.

“We always want to keep the opponent high up in their own half, and that worked well today,” he said. “If they do get through, I’m happy to be there to make the saves.

The young goalkeeper also revealed a moment of sportsmanship following last week’s encounter, sharing that Atalanta’s striker had reached out to him after his injury.

“The striker from Atalanta Bergamo wrote to me after the injury last week - that was very nice.”

Asked about a possible first call-up to the German national team, Urbig remained relaxed and slightly amused.

“I haven’t been called yet, but I was told someone tried to reach me,” he said with a smile. “I’ll have to check my phone - we’ll see.”
