It was a night where Bayern Munich turned superiority into inevitability. After overwhelming Atalanta early on, the Bavarians combined star quality with youthful energy to secure a convincing second-leg victory against the Italian side and underline their Champions League ambitions even further.

Here is our detailed match report for the game:

Match report: FC Bayern vs. Atalanta Bergamo

Bayern Munich picked up right where they left off in the first leg, asserting control from the opening whistle. Vincent Kompany’s side came flying out of the blocks, dominating possession and carving out chance after chance. Within the first 20 minutes alone, Bayern had already racked up eight shots and clear opportunities, pinning Atalanta deep inside their own half.

The breakthrough came in controversial fashion in the 22nd minute. Harry Kane saw his effort inside the box blocked by the elbow of Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini, leaving the referee with little choice but to point to the spot. Kane stepped up himself, but his initial penalty was brilliantly saved by Marco Sportiello. However, the Italian goalkeeper had strayed off his line, and the decision was quickly overturned. Given a second chance, Kane made no mistake, calmly dispatching the retake into the bottom right corner to give Bayern a deserved 1-0 lead.

Atalanta, to their credit, responded with the kind of organisation and compact structure Kompany had anticipated before kickoff. The visitors looked far more disciplined than in the first leg, closing spaces and showing determination to stay in the tie. Yet despite their improved defensive display, Bayern’s overall superiority remained clear throughout the first half.

Any lingering hope for an even second match was extinguished shortly after the restart.

Kane once again took centre stage, producing a moment of individual brilliance. The English striker weaved his way past two defenders in the box, spun 180 degrees, and unleashed an unstoppable strike into the top corner - a goal that perfectly encapsulated his world-class quality.

Just two minutes later, Bayern struck again. Their trademark Gegenpressing forced a turnover high up the pitch, and the ball fell to Lennart Karl. The young midfielder, reportedly on the verge of a call-up from Julian Nagelsmann, kept his composure to slot home and make it 3-0, effectively ending the contest.

While Bayern dominated proceedings, Jonas Urbig was called into action when needed. The goalkeeper, whose fitness had been uncertain ahead of the match, delivered two excellent saves to preserve the clean sheet for the time being.

Bayern weren’t done yet.

In the 70th minute, they added a fourth to cap off a complete performance. Urbig initiated a swift counterattack with a precise distribution, setting Bayern racing forward. The move ended with Luis Díaz, who finished with a delicate and composed chip over Sportiello to put the result beyond all doubt.

Vincent Kompany used this comfortable situation to give game time to some of his young talents: Leftback Deniz Ofli (18) and centre-back Filip Pavić (16) were allowed to mix it up with the professionals. Only the much talked about and talented goalkeeper Leonard Prescott (16) did not feature in this match, as Urbig recovered in time.

Just like in the first leg, Atalanta got one goal back to annoy the Bayern Munich defense at least a little. Lazar Samardžić found himself at the end of a routine corner in the 85th minute and nodded the ball in - which resulted in and annoyed Urbig kicking the post.

From start to finish, this was a display of control, quality, and clinical execution. Atalanta showed improvement and resilience, but Bayern Munich demonstrated why they remain one of Europe’s most formidable forces - and why they are serious contenders as the competition progresses.
