Mainz loanee van den Berg hits out at Liverpool, demands to be sold
Sepp van den Berg, who impressed on loan at Mainz in the 2023/24 season, has made it clear that he wants to leave Liverpool.
The centre-back joined Liverpool in 2019, but has never been given the chance to play for the first team, instead being sent out on loan several times.
Mainz are reportedly keen to sign him permanently, but with Liverpool reportedly asking for €20 million, they can't afford him.
Speaking to De Telegraaf (via Liverpool Echo), van den Berg has hit out at Liverpool, saying they're trying to hinder his future by setting his price so high.
"You (Liverpool) haven't shown confidence in me all this time, but you want to hinder my future," van den Berg said in the interview.
"I want to play every week and develop. In Germany, I enjoy playing Dortmund away in front of 70,000 people, Bayern Munich away against Harry Kane, Stuttgart, Leipzig, Leverkusen, against clubs like that I am challenged every week.
The Dutch central defender made 33 appearances for Mainz in the Bundesliga in the 2023/24 season, scoring three goals. His contract with Liverpool runs until 2026.
