With just one year remaining on his contract at VfL Wolfsburg, Jonas Wind could be on the move from the Volkswagen Arena this summer.

After the Denmark international found the net in Wolfsburg’s 2-0 win over Dynamo Dresden in the Volkswagen Cup on Sunday, he left his future open.

“At the moment, I still have one year left on my contract here. We’ll have to see what happens,” Wind told Kicker after the match.

New head coach Paul Simonis praised the 26-year-old striker and made his stance clear:

    “I hope he stays.”

However, growing speculation that Wolfsburg are closing in on signing a new forward in the form of Josh Sargent from Norwich City is doing little to silence talk of a potential exit for Wind.

Meanwhile, 20-year-old Dženan Pejčinović – back from a loan spell at Fortuna Düsseldorf – has impressed in pre-season and adds further competition up front.

“For one match, Jonas might be the better fit, for another, Dženan,” Simonis noted.
