FC Barcelona is closely monitoring the situation of Hamburger SV loanee Luka Vušković, based on reports from Mundo Deportivo.

Currently, however, Barça's management is waiting for Andreas Christensen to respond to a two-year contract extension offer.

Should the former Gladbach center-back decide against staying with the Catalan club, Barcelona intends to sign a young replacement.

Accordingly, defensive talent Vušković – currently on loan from Tottenham Hotspur to HSV – would be one of their preferred options.

This information has also been backed up by Sky Germany earlier this month, who also linked the Croatian defender with the Catalan side.

The Spanish sports newspaper even mentions a potential transfer fee of around €60million to pry Vušković away from the London club.

In these spheres, HSV obviously no longer plays a role regarding Vuskovic's future, with little to no chance of him extending his stay at the club.

Even for Barcelona, a transfer of this magnitude would not be easy to manage, but agent Pini Zahavi is expected to make it possible.

Meanwhile, former Schalke and Barcelona star Ivan Rakitić believes his young compatriot should instead join Bayern Munich.
