Borussia Dortmund’s defender Ramy Bensebaini came off the bench to score Algeria’s winner from the spot in their 2-1 friendly win over Niger. The 31-year-old captained the side in their opening AFCON qualifying games against Zambia and Burundi.

Algeria also had Schalke’s Adil Aouchiche and Bayer Leverkusen’s Ibrahim Maza in their starting lineup, while Eintracht Frankfurt’s Farès Chaïbi played the last 25 minutes.

The center-back last scored in international football when Algeria defeated Togo with his penalty-kick two years ago. They are once again grouped with Togo in the AFCON qualifiers as they will lock horns twice in the space of four days in November’s international break.

Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt’s new midfielder Raphael Onyedika was absent from Nigeria’s squad as the Super Eagles drew 3-3 with Russia in a friendly.

Earlier on Tuesday, Mainz’s Lee Jae-Sung and Schalke’s loanee Hwang Hee-Chan featured for South Korea in their 2-0 victory over Uzbekistan. FC Bayern’s Kim Min-jae was absent from the squad for load management reasons.
