Fabrizio Romano has reported that Werder Bremen are considering a move for Burnley’s center-back Hjalmar Ekdal. According to the journalist, negotiations are ongoing as Bremen look to bolster their defensive department.

Hjalmar is the younger brother of Albin Ekdal, who spent three seasons with HSV before departing in the wake of the club's first-ever relegation from the Bundesliga.

The Swedish international joined Burnley from Djurgårdens IF three years ago. He spent the second half of last season on loan at FC Groningen, but he has started 13 Premier League games this term. Werder Bremen are winless in their last nine Bundesliga encounters, although Horst Steffen will still be at the helm for the visit of Borussia Mönchengladbach.
