Eintracht Frankfurt
Frankfurt are languishing in 14th place in the Bundesliga table after winning two, drawing two and losing three of their seven matches. Die Adler have lost two of their previous three matches, including a narrow 1-0 defeat in last Saturday’s away clash against Borussia Dortmund.
However, they will head into matchday eight on the back of a win after getting the better of Hamburg in Tuesday’s cup tie. Robin Koch, Jonathan Burkardt and Younes Ebnoutalib all got on the scoresheet as Frankfurt claimed a 3-1 win at the Volksparkstadion, sealing their place in the third round.
Adi Hütter’s side will now return to Deutsche Bank Park, where they claimed a 1-0 win over FC Köln in their most recent home outing, a result that represents their only clean sheet of the season. They now have the chance to record back-to-back home league wins for the first time since recording three consecutive victories at Deutsche Bank Park in March.
Team News
Frankfurt remain without the injured Jessic Ngankam. Meanwhile, Lilian Brassier is set to return to the starting lineup after sitting out the midweek cup tie due to a minor knee issue.
Hamburg
Hamburg are sitting in 11th spot and a point better off than Frankfurt after winning three and losing four of their seven Bundesliga games. Die Rothosen enjoyed a three-game winning run before they fell to a 1-0 defeat in last weekend’s away meeting with Paderborn. Another defeat followed against Frankfurt in midweek, as they suffered a second-round exit for the second time in three seasons.
With Hamburg seeking revenge on Sunday, they can take confidence from the fact they took three points from their most recent visit to Deutsche Bank Park in May, when they fought back from a goal down to claim a 2-1 victory.
Their hopes of clinching three points may rest on whether they strike first, considering they have won all three league games in which they have netted the opener this term. However, only one of those victories took place on the road, with their other three road trips ending in defeat.
Team News
Hamburg are unable to call upon Nicolás Capaldo, Bilal Nadir, Nicolai Remberg, Fábio Vieira and Yussuf Poulsen. As for Sebastiaan Bornauw, he is a doubt after taking a blow to the face in a collision with Frankfurt goalkeeper Noah Atubolu in midweek.
In positive news, defender Jordan Torunarigha will return to the matchday squad after a two-game injury absence.
