Rumored to be in the works for a couple of weeks, Josip Stanisic's contract extension with FC Bayern München has been confirmed. The Munich-based club gave the 24-year-old - just back from a successful loan stint with German champions Bayer 04 Leverkusen - quite the rollout on their website and social media. As it was up-in-the-air for quite some time as to whether the right-back would be remaining with the champs, the record champs made certain to emphasize that Stanisic was "born in Munich, raised in Munich, and staying in Munich".

"We are happy to be extending extending Josip's contract on a long-term basis," FCB sporting head Max Eberl noted in a club statement, "He was born in Munich and already played for FC Bayern as a youth player. Stani knows what's important at FC Bayern. He has established himself at the highest level in Leverkusen and with the Croatian national team - we are looking forward to the coming years with him."

"Josip is another example of the young talent work at the FC Bayern Campus," sporting director Christoph Freund added, "The year in Leverkusen was important because he was able to play regularly.  You need characters like that in a team. He's a role model for how to assert yourself at FC Bayern."

"I'm delighted to have signed a new contract with my club FC Bayern," the player himself added, "I've been a fan of this club for as long as I can remember. I'm grateful to Leverkusen because I learned a lot there - both on and off the pitch.

"My goals are clear," Stanisic -whose new deal runs through 2029 concluded, “Those to give my all for FC Bayern and win as many titles as possible. It's nice to be back in my home.”
