Bayern München have been on the hunt for a defensive midfielder this summer without any luck so far.

Bayern München president Uli Hoeness recently said that the Bavarians aren't planning to make further signings this summer, but perhaps a new number six could still arrive at Allianz Arena before the transfer window closes after all.

According to Sport Bild, Bayern coach Niko Kovac has made it clear internally that he would like the club to sign a new defensive midfielder.

Bayern recently brought in a central midfielder in Michael Cuisance from Gladbach, but the 20-year-old isn't a traditional number six, nor does the coach feel he is ready to play regularly at this stage of his development.

When asked if Bayern could still bring in a defensive midfielder this summer, the club's sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic, wouldn't rule out anything.

"Let's see," he told Sport Bild.

Salihamidzic inquired about Espanyol's Marc Roca earlier this summer, but a transfer hasn't materialized - yet, at least.

According to reports, Espanyol didn't want to listen to offers below the 22-year-old's €40 million release clause at the time.
