Ruben Vargas is playing with his idol at Augsburg

Ruben Vargas is excited about playing with his idol Stephan Lichtsteiner at Augsburg.
Ruben Vargas could hardly believe it when he heard that FC Augsburg had signed Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer in August.

The 21-year-old was born in the Swiss village of Adligenswil, just like Lichtsteiner, and saw the right-back as an idol while growing up.

"At first, I couldn't believe that he would join us. When I started playing football, he was playing for Lazio. He was the hero of our village. I looked up to him and considered him a role model," Vargas said in an interview with Sport Bild and added:

"We won a tournament in Luzern when I was 13 years old. He was a guest of honor and presented us with a prize. I was totally thrilled. I was allowed to stand next to him for a photo and was very nervous.

"Stephan can set an example for us with his experience, mentality and professionalism. He's an absolute leader," Vargas said.

Vargas has scored three goals in four appearances for Augsburg so far.
