Real Madrid reportedly in pole position to sign Wirtz

Real Madrid appear to be the most likely next step for Bayer Leverkusen prodigy Florian Wirtz.

At the age of just 21, Florian Wirtz has already made 148 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen with 41 goals and 49 assists to his name, putting himself on the radar of all of Europe's top clubs.

According to a report in Wednesday's edition of Sport Bild, Real Madrid currently have the best chance of signing the youngster.

Wirtz is unlikely to leave this summer, but a move in 2025 seems conceivable. The 21-year-old could then succeed Toni Kroos, whose expiring contract Real Madrid are looking to extend for another year.

Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Arsenal have also been mentioned as strong suitors.

Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro said last month that it would take an offer of 150 million for the club to consider selling Wirtz. However, he later backtracked and declared the youngster not for sale.
