Andreas Luthe questions penalty call after Union's loss to Dortmund

Andreas Luthe was disappointed with the penalty decision that led to the first goal in his team's 2-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.
Union Berlin goalkeeper Andreas Luthe has questioned the decision to award Borussia Dortmund a penalty in his side's 2-0 defeat at the Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday.

The referee pointed to the spot after Luthe was adjudged to have brought down Marco Reus midway through the first half. The penalty stood after a VAR check, but the 34-year-old shotstopper felt it was a harsh decision.

"Marco went down extremely early and wanted the penalty," Luthe told Sky after the game and added:

"If you take a second look at the situation, sometimes you decide against giving a penalty like that.

"There was no clear contact. At the last moment, I noticed that he took the ball around me, and then I didn't really go for it."

Luthe went on to save Erling Haaland's penalty, but Reus was in the right place to tap in the rebound. Raphael Guerreiro later added a second to earn Dortmund an important win in their hunt for Champions League football.
