Leverkusen to open contract talks with Lucas Alario

Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly planning to offer a new deal to Lucas Alario.
Bayer Leverkusen will look into the possibility of extending Lucas Alario's contract, according to Kicker.

Alario, whose current deal expires in 2022, has struggled to nail down a certain starting berth at BayArena and has therefore been consistently linked with a move away from 'Die Werkself'.

However, the 28-year-old recently suffered a season-ending hamstring injury, which could hinder his chances of getting a move to a different club this summer.

Accordingly – in order to avoid losing the striker for free next year – Leverkusen are hoping to tie him down to a new deal, as per Kicker.

"We will sit down with Lucas and his agent to find out what his expectations are," confirmed sporting director Simon Rolfes, but denied that the injury could prevent a possible transfer.

"His injury is too small for that," claimed Rolfes.

Alario has found the net 15 times in 33 appearances this season.
