Wirtz coy about future: "Now is not the time to talk about it"

Florian Wirtz didn't make a clear commitment to Bayer Leverkusen when asked about his future at the German national team camp.

Bayer Leverkusen prodigy Florian Wirtz has brushed off questions about his future.

At the German national team camp, Wirtz was asked by Sky Germany if he will definitely be playing for Leverkusen next season.

However, the young attacking midfielder wasn't too keen on discussing his club situation, saying he wants to concentrate fully on the European Championship.

"Everyone knows my contract," said Wirtz, who is tied to Leverkusen until 2027.

"Now is not the time to talk about it. I'm having a great time in Leverkusen and I feel good.

“My mind is 100% focused on the Euros. Everything else doesn't matter at the moment,” Wirtz added.

A few months ago, Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro told Onda Cero that the 21-year-old will "definitely" stay beyond the summer.

And back in February, Wirtz's father and agent, Hans-Joachim Wirtz, said there were no plans to leave Leverkusen.

"Florian has a contract in Leverkusen until 2027. That is roughly how long he will stay at Leverkusen. There's no answer what will happen when. We should wait for the next two years and then we'll see what happens," Hans-Joachim Wirtz told Kölner-Stadt Anzeiger.
