Having been linked with Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon for weeks, it now appears Bayern Munich have stepped up their interest in the 25-year-old attacker.

According to Sky Germany, the German champions have presented Gordon’s representatives with an initial offer of a five-year contract.

While Bayern are optimistic of reaching an agreement with Gordon’s camp, the main obstacle remains Newcastle’s asking price of up to €90 million for the England international.

If the Magpies refuse to lower their valuation, the Champions League semi-finalists could turn to alternative targets instead.

Bild has previously reported that a fee in the region of €70 million would be more manageable for Bayern.

Barcelona join race for Gordon

Meanwhile, reports from Sport and RAC1 in Spain claim that FC Barcelona are also showing interest in Gordon.

Barcelona sporting director Deco has reportedly gathered information about the 25-year-old.

However, as with Bayern, Newcastle's asking price represents a major hurdle for the Catalan giants.
