Bayern thump Union Berlin on special night for fastest centurion Kane and hat-trick hero Olise

Harry Kane broke Dieter Müller’s record of reaching 100 Bundesliga goals with fewer games in FC Bayern’s 7-0 win over Union Berlin. The England captain joined the list of centurion goal scorers in only 98 appearances.

Despite playing at home, FC Bayern wore a special, colorful Wiesn jersey. However, that didn’t stop them from dominating the early stages against the all-red Union Berlin. After conceding three or more goals in each of his first three games in charge, Mauro Lustrinelli preferred a defensive playing style.

The hosts had the vast majority of possession, but Michael Olise’s harmless effort was the only shot on target inside the first 15 minutes. But with Bayern’s sheer quality, they only need a slight opening to make the difference.

In the 18th minute, Jamal Musiala scored his first league goal of the season with a curler from outside the box. Less than five minutes later, Frederik Rønnow made his first big save of the evening from Jonathan Tah’s header.

Apart from a routine Manuel Neuer moment in which he cleared the ball almost from the middle of the pitch, the visitors struggled to even get out of their half. At the other end, Luis Díaz saw his goal cancelled for a clear offside.

The Danish goalkeeper had to take the ball out of the net two more times before the half-time break. First, Kane scored his 100th Bundesliga goal from the penalty spot after ex-BVB fullback Tom Rothe’s challenge on Olise.

The Frenchman did it all by himself five minutes later with a spectacular effort from the edge of the box. Both players have only found the net once in the previous three rounds. Union Berlin finished the half without any kind of attempt, but Neuer was called into action twice in quick succession after the restart to deny Janik Haberer and Rothe.

A couple of minutes later, the Rekordmeister extended their lead with Kane’s second goal of the evening. The 33-year-old heads home from Olise’s pin-point delivery. Luis Díaz, who will be rested during the international break instead of joining Colombia’s national team, was denied one more time by Rønnow before leaving his place for Ismael Saibari.

The summer signing came close to scoring his maiden Bundesliga goal almost immediately, but Rothe cleared his close-range shot. The Moroccan attacker wasn’t going to be denied with his next chance as he made it five with a brilliant strike.

Alphonso Davies, who surpassed Paul Stalteri as the most-capped Canadian player in the Bundesliga, provided his second assist of the evening. Kane was chasing a hat-trick, but it was the turn of Olise to complete a brace with a calm finish after a spectacular long-ball from substitute Tom Bischof.

With 15 minutes still left on the clock, Bischof joined Davies on two assists. But the seventh goal was all about Olise’s masterclass. The winger curled home another spectacular finish from outside the box for his 50th Bayern goal.

The 24-year-old has only scored a hat-trick once before this evening, which came in France’s pre-World Cup friendly against Northern Ireland. There was another piece of good news for Bayern as Serge Gnabry made his first appearance of the season as he came in place of Kane. The last action of the game saw Musiala denied a second goal for an offside call.

Before the rest of matchday 4 action, FC Bayern are back in familiar territory at the Bundesliga summit. The Rekordmeister will not have a competitive game during Oktoberfest carnival for the first time in their entire history. Meanwhile, Union Berlin entered the season’s first international break still waiting for a first league win.
