In a somewhat surprising fashion, German news outlet Tagesschau has reported that Borussia Dortmund‘s centre back Nico Schlotterbeck will be part of Nagelsmann‘s squad selection next Thursday for the Euros! Multiple sources, such as Sky Germany, have confirmed this report since.

Schlotterbeck was already part of Germany‘s squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, but he fell out of favour with DFB coach Julian Nagelsmann, who selected Stuttgart‘s Waldemar Anton and Frankfurt‘s Robin Koch instead of the BVB player in March.

The talented defender has put up great performances for Dortmund in the second half of the season - his centre back partner Mats Hummels, who also hopes to get the call up from Nagelsmann, said the following about Schlotterbeck:

„He has been criticised too harshly in the past. Germany won’t find a way around him the way he is playing right now - he only needs to practice attacking headers with me, then I‘ll be fully content with him.“

It looks like Germany already hasn’t found a way around him - and after a possible success in the Champions League final with Dortmund, Schlotterbeck will increase his number of caps for the German national team as well (currently 11)!
