Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed this evening that they will have to do without defender Guéla Doué for the time being.

The Ivorian international suffered a muscle injury in his right calf during yesterday's, Tuesday 15 September, training session.

Carles Martinez's side were going their their preparations for their Europa League clash with Slovenian champions NK Celje at the time.

The setback was confirmed by an MRI scan conducted by the Rhineland club's medical personnel this Wednesday afternoon.

The 23-year-old Doué will therefore not be available to Leverkusen's Spanish head coach in the coming weeks.

It also likely rules Doué out of Côte d'Ivoire's two upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Ghana (24 Sept) and Somalia (29 Sept).
