Eberl reveals Bayern explored move for Barcola before Liverpool switch

Bayern Munich were linked with a move for Bradley Barcola in the past, when he was still playing for Paris Saint-Germain, but ultimately chose not to pursue their interest.

In an interview with Sport Bild, Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl revealed that he had already explored the possibility of signing Barcola during his time as sporting managing director at RB Leipzig.

The Frenchman was also a target for Bayern following Eberl’s arrival at the Säbener Strasse, but the price PSG demanded for the 24-year-old, who ultimately joined Liverpool for a reported €125 million fee in the summer, was simply too high.

“To be honest, I already knew Bradley from my time in Leipzig. I wanted to bring him to RB. We sat down together at the time and discussed it. So I already had a closer relationship with Bradley. There had always been interest. Of course, we also looked at Bradley at Bayern. But when you hear those kinds of figures, it was simply too much for us,” Eberl said.

Instead, Bayern ultimately decided to spend a reported €70 million on signing Luis Díaz from Liverpool in the summer of 2025.

“With Luis Díaz, we made a decision that was also costly, but on a different scale to Bradley. Díaz is also a player who brings people into the stadium. We are extremely happy with him.”
