Leipzig lack “dirty mentality” to win games, says frustrated Raum

RB Leipzig defender David Raum did not hide his frustration after his side conceded a last-minute equalizer in their 2–2 draw with Borussia Dortmund, criticizing Leipzig’s mentality and lack of experience in managing decisive moments.

RB Leipzig defender David Raum delivered a brutally honest assessment after his side conceded a last-minute equalizer to draw 2-2 with Borussia Dortmund, expressing deep frustration at what he described as a recurring failure to finish games.

“I’m extremely disappointed, really angry, really furious about how we gave the game away again at the end,” Raum said after the final whistle.

Leipzig had been the better side for long stretches and held a deserved lead, but were unable to protect their advantage in the closing moments - something Raum believes reflects a deeper issue.

“It’s not the first time we’ve lost points even though we were better and leading,” he said. “We lack a bit of experience and that dirty mentality needed to win games like this at the end. I’m really angry.”

Raum emphasized that Leipzig must learn to prioritize results over attacking ambition in key moments, even if it means abandoning their usual style.

“We need to review the match, but in the end we simply have to want it more,” he explained. “We need to put our ego aside and sometimes just get the result over the line instead of trying to score more goals. We have to do better there.”

The defender also briefly voiced frustration with the officiating, though he stopped short of detailed criticism.

“The refereeing performance wasn’t okay today,” Raum said. “But I don’t want to go into that further right now.”

Raum’s emotional reaction reflected the disappointment within the Leipzig squad after letting a victory slip from their grasp - and highlighted the mental step the team must take if they are to consistently compete at the highest level.
