On Sunday morning, VfB Stuttgart became the first Bundesliga club this season to sack their coach as Tayfun Korkut was dismissed following a weak start to the season.
Until further notice, Andreas Hinkel has been given the main responsibility for the training of the first team, but according to Kicker, the club are looking for an external candidate to replace Korkut.
The current favourite is Markus Weinzierl who is ready for a new task. Reportedly, the former coach of Schalke 04 and Augsburg was in talks with Stuttgart before Korkut was hired in January, but pulled out of the negotiations.
Back then, Weinzierl was still under contract with Schalke even though he was released from his duties in June 2017. It wasn't until the past summer - a year later - that a deal to terminate his contract with 'The Royal Blues' was reached.
Another possibility is the former RB Leipzig coach Ralph Hasenhüttl who parted company with 'Die Roten Bullen' before this season. However, according to Kicker, Stuttgart haven't contacted the Austrian coach so far.
A third option is SV Sandhausen coach Kenan Kocak who was also approached by Stuttgart in January. However, after a disappointing start to the season, Sandhausen are sitting 16th in the 2. Bundesliga, and Kicker deems it unlikely that Stuttgart will attempt to hire Kocak at the moment.
Meanwhile, Peter Stöger, Peter Bosz, Markus Gisdol and Jürgen Klinsmann have also been brought up as possibilities.
Stuttgart's will face Borussia Dortmund on October 20 in their next match - and the club's president, Wolfgang Dietrich, has told SWR that he hopes to have hired a new coach before then.
