Timothy Chandler discusses possibility of playing in the MLS

Eintracht Frankfurt defender Timothy Chandler discusses the possibility of him joining an MLS club and opens up on his experiences with the U.S. national team.
In an exclusive interview with sports betting website Betway, Eintracht Frankfurt's Timothy Chandler discussed the possibility of him moving to the American Major League Soccer in the future.

Despite being a U.S. international, the Frankfurt-born defender has never played in the States, and he admits that it would be difficult for him to leave his hometown club.

"I see a lot of players want to go and play there. I thought about it a couple of times, but Frankfurt is my hometown club," the U.S. international said.

"I do think MLS can achieve a lot in the next couple of years, they can come close to Europe," added the right-back, whose contract with Frankfurt expires in 2025.

"The future is always difficult to tell, but I really think there is a lot to come."

The son of German mother and an American father, 31-year-old Chandler holds a duel citizenship and has represented the U.S. national team since the age of 20.

"It was the beginning of my career and USA was the first national team that asked me to play," recalled Chandler.

The fact that Chandler's first language is German and not English made things a bit more complicated for him. But, fortunately, he received a lot of support from his teammates.

"On the pitch, it's always easy to find the language. But off it we had some German-speaking players. My English isn't perfect, but the big players tried to help me out when I made mistakes," said Chandler, who last represented his country in November 2016, and added:

"They just said, 'Timmy, it's no problem, you're a good kid', which was really kind because I was a child.

"At the time, we had Jermaine Jones, Fabian Johnson and Danny Williams that spoke German.

"Not everything was perfect when they spoke either, so sometimes it was very funny but they're good guys," said Chandler, who still follows the team on TV and Instagram.
