Union loanee Ingvartsen wants to stay at Mainz

Marcus Ingvartsen is keen to stay at Mainz beyond the summer.
Marcus Ingvartsen, who is on loan at Mainz from Union Berlin until the end of the season, has no intentions of returning to his parent club.

According to reports, Ingvartsen's loan move will be made permanent automatically if Mainz stay in the league.

And speaking to Bild ahead of this weekend's Bundesliga game between Union and Mainz, the 26-year-old reveals he has his heart set on staying, even if he has mostly been used as a substitute this season.

"I want to stay beyond the summer. Here I get to play striker again, and I feel very comfortable in the city and with the guys here," the Danish forward explained.

"It's exciting to come back to Union as an opponent - I'm looking forward to it," added the Dane, who is hoping to receive more playing time after working his way back from a persistent groin issue.

"Of course I would like to play more often," Ingvartsen admitted.

"Training, playing and my new position in Mainz is different. My body has reacted to that. I used the winter break to get completely fit again, spent three weeks in Denmark and worked hard there every day. That helped me a lot."
