Bayern lose Hernandez for 4-6 weeks with muscle tear

German giants FC Bayern München announced on Wednesday morning that center back Lucas Hernandez had suffered a muscle-cluster tear in his abductor area.
If the nature of the injury is any indication, FC Bayern München will have to do without defender Lucas Hernandez for 4-6 weeks. The Frenchman might also have his chances of making Didier Deschamps' French national team World Cup squad imperiled by the new injury.

Hernandez started alongside Dayton Upamecano in central defensive during last night's 2-0 Champions' League victory over FC Barcelona. The scorer of the game-winning goal was widely regarded to have turned in a magnificent defensive performance together with his partner in the victory.

After some rotation in the position, it would appear that FCB head-coach Julian Nagelsmann will have no choice but to utilize Upamecano and Matthijs de Ligt as his center-halve duo in the coming weeks. De Ligt has gotten off to a somewhat sketchy start since joining the team this summer. The Dutchman conceded a crucial penalty in this past weekend's draw with Stuttgart.

Upamecano himself and fellow defender Benjamin Pavard also sustained knocks in last night's win. According to the club, however, these injuries are not serious and both players are expected to train with the team in the coming days. Speaking to Germany's main sporting tabloid on Wednesday, Pavard said he would definitely be fit for the weekend.

Bayern will also have to do without attacker Kingsley Coman until after the coming international break. One of the team's other Frenchman is out for 2-3 weeks with a muscle strain.
