Dier hopeful of return to national team following Bayern revival

In an interview with Britain's "The Times" newspaper published earlier today, FC Bayern München defender Eric Dier noted that he felt that his recent performances with the German giants merited his consideration for another England call-up.
Since joining Germany's record champions on loan from Tottenham in the recent January transfer window, 49-times-capped England international Eric Dier has made eight appearances (six starts) for Thomas Tuchel's FCB. The 30-year-old - after falling out of favor under Tottenham head-coach Ange Postecoglou and not receiving an England call-up since the 2022 World Cup - noted that he was grateful for the opportunity to once again showcase his skills.

"In November, I never thought I would have been in this position," Dier remarked in his interview, "I trained very hard at Tottenham in the last six months. But one can't see the end of the tunnel when it's completely dark. To have that blind faith to keep fit and remain professional, that's what I'm most proud of."

"I would love nothing more than to be back in the England squad," Dier also said, "[49 caps] is an annoying number. Considering who I play for [now] and how happy I am with the way in which I've played so far, I think a lot speaks in my favor."

"The high level of expectation is what makes it so nice to be a part of it," Dier said of his - some would say disappointing results-wise - stint at Bayern, "One is expected to win the league. That's how it is at a club of this size."

Dier recorded his first Bundesliga scorer point this afternoon, registering an assist on what would be his countryman Harry Kane's third goal of the day. Amid the rotating Bayern central defensive carousel this season, Dier has earned some praise in German footballing circles recently for establishing some solid chemistry with Dutch teammate Matthijs de Ligt.
