Bremen confirm month-long injury break for Kownacki

SV Werder Bremen confirmed a four week spell on the sidelines for Polish striker Dawid Kownacki on Friday afternoon.
After being substituted off at the half-hour mark during a test fixture against Hannover 96 yesterday, it has now been confirmed that Polish striker Dawid Kownacki might miss the rest of SV Werder Bremen's league campaign. The 27-year-old had been beginning to earn more regular playing time for Ole Werner's squad, making appearances off the bench in four of Bremen's last five league fixtures.

Since signing for the Hanseaten on a free this past summer, the former Fortuna Düsseldorf mainstay has been unable to replicate the top-tier success he enjoyed during his time with the Flingeraner. Kownacki was unable to get his name on the scoresheet in 16 league deployments for Bremen this year. Rumors of a move to another club have surfaced.

In speaking on the injury, SV personnel boss Clemens Fritz estimated Kownacki's down-time to run at least a month. Fritz expressed the hope that the seven-times-capped international "might be back for [the match-day 30 encounter] against Stuttgart". Werder face VfL Wolfsburg, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the next three league rounds.
