Bierhoff calls for patience with young players as Germany rebuild

Germany must be patient as Joachim Löw tries to rebuild the national team with a group of young players, says general manager Oliver Bierhoff.
Germany general manager Oliver Bierhoff has called for patience while 'Die Mannschaft' are going through a generational change.

Thomas Müller, Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels were recently axed from the team by Germany coach Joachim Löw as he wants to change the face of the team and give younger players more responsibility - and it's important to give them time, says Bierhoff.

"'Jogi' is building a new team, and that means giving young players complete confidence. It's not just about quality, but about creating space for the young players, so they can grow into their new roles," Bierhoff told Bild and added:

"It's very important that we're patient about this development."

"We felt that it would be best to put the young players in the front row with confidence. I think that's a very logical and courageous step by 'Jogi'," Bierhoff said.

Germany open their European Championship qualification against the Netherlands in Amsterdam tonight at 20.45 CET.
