Agent: Gbamin needs a new challenge

Jean-Philippe Gbamin's agent has hinted his client could leave Mainz this summer.
Mainz's Jean-Philippe Gbamin is in need of a new challenge, says his agent, Bernard Collignon.

Gbamin has played for Mainz since 2016, and Collignon feels it's time for the 23-year-old to move on.

"He needs a new challenge. And I don't think he'll find it in Mainz. I believe he's in a comfort zone that's hard to get out of," the agent told Bild.

Gbamin was heavily linked with a transfer last summer with Arsenal among the reported suitors, but Mainz sporting director Rouven Schröder didn't want to sell him at the time.

The 23-year-old, who's under contract until 2023, is understood to be valued at around €30 million.
