Union Berlin coach Urs Fischer has put pen to paper on a contract extension, the club have announced.

Fischer's deal was due to run out at the end of the season, but it has now been extended by a further year until 2021.

"We were sure that Urs Fischer would fill the position of head coach in the summer of 2018. This success has already occurred in the first year and an agreement, which has been characterized by mutual respect and trust has gone on to develop quickly," Union President Dirk Zingler told the club's website.

"Urs Fischer has got involved with Union and our fans feel something like this very clearly. We hope that our shared path will continue to be successful," he continued.

Fischer was appointed coach of Union Berlin in 2018.
