BVB boss defends Brandt: 'Lewandowski and Gündogan also needed time to adjust'

BVB boss Michael Zorc has come to the aid of Julian Brandt following the midfielder's somewhat difficult start to the season.
Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has supported Julian Brandt following the criticism he has faced after his summer move from Bayer Leverkusen.

Speaking in the wake of Dortmund's 2-1 win over Gladbach in the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday that saw Brandt bag a brace, Zorc told Funke Mediengruppe:

"Today, in the age of social media, these negative judgments come too fast and hit too hard for me."

Zorc points to the fact that players such as Robert Lewandowski and Ilkay Gündogan also needed time to settle in at BVB before developing into world-class players.

"Let's all remember how the first season at BVB went for Robert Lewandowski and Ilkay Gündogan for example. They also needed some time to adjust before maturing into world-class players."

Robert Lewandowski joined Borussia Dortmund in 2010 and left the club for Bayern München in 2014. Ilkay Gündogan appeared for 'Die Schwarzgelben' from 2011 until 2016 when he joined Manchester City.
