Köln in battle to fight off interest from Schalke in Noah Katterbach

FC Köln are facing a battle to hold on to Noah Katterbach who is understood to have attracted interest from Schalke 04.
FC Köln want to extend Noah Katterbach's contract to fend off interest from Schalke 04.

Katterbach is out of contract in 2021, and Köln are eager to tie the 18-year-old down to a new deal, with Schalke said to be keeping an eye on him.

"We are in talks with his representatives," Köln boss Horst Heldt said in an interview with Express.de and added:

"I don't know what Schalke 04 are doing. That's not so important for me. We have opened talks with Noah, and that's all I can say. I don't need to know how things will go on at the end of February. There's no question that we can really imagine extending Noah's contract."

When asked about his contract situation last month, Katterbach told Express.de:

"I'm not worrying about my contract. My agent should take care of this with the club. I want to keep a clear head and concentrate fully on football."

The left-back has emerged as a regular starter for Köln this season, making 11 Bundesliga appearances so far.
