PSV defender Timo Baumgartl targets Germany call-up for the Euros

Timo Baumgartl is aiming to represent Germany at the European Championships next year.
PSV defender Timo Baumgartl says he's dreaming of a Germany call-up for the European Championship, which was recently postponed until next year by UEFA.

The centre-back, who left VfB Stuttgart to join PSV last summer, told Sport1:

"Last year, I played at the European Under-21 Championship, so my clear goal is to play for the senior national team. That's the dream of every young player. Here, I have the platform needed to prove myself internationally. That's an important criterion. In football, things can happen very quickly, so I hope to be called up in the near future. I will never lose sight of the national team.

"In any case, the European Championship next year is my goal. I would like to be part of such a tournament. But the 2021 Olympics will also take place, and that's another tournament I would like to take part in. But I prefer setting short-team goals. As you can see these days, there are many external factors that can put a damper on your plans," he added.

Baumgartl, 24, has made 22 appearances for PSV this season, scoring two goals.
