Werder player placed in quarantine

A member of Werder Bremen's first team squad has been put in quarantine. According to Bild, Claudio Pizarro is the player in question.
A player from Werder Bremen has been put under two-week quarantine after someone in his personal circle tested positive for coronavirus, the club have announced.

Although the player has since tested negative on two occasions, the decision has been made to place him in quarantine in conjunction with the local health authorities.

"As a result, our team and our staff are not under any risk. This shows that the medical protocol is working and that infected individuals can be identified early on in order for the necessary measures to be implemented," said Werder sporting director Frank Baumann in a statement.

According to Bild, the player in question is Claudio Pizarro. The German media outlet claims that the 41-year-old's daughter has tested positive for coronavirus.

Werder return to Bundesliga action on Monday, when they face Bayer Leverkusen.
